Style Rookie meets the Mad Hatter

This photo brings me endless joy, featuring Tavi and John Galliano after the Dior show. This is the type of world I want to live in, where a teen fashion blogger gets front row at the Paris couture shows and has a tet'a te with the grand master himself. I've been following Tavi for a few years now, and am so happy that she's been fulfilling her dreams and making serious waves in the fashion world. It's amusing to watch established editors get all riled up because of a young upstart with a distinct voice and simple platform (blogger) to share it. Reading her blog this last year has felt somewhat like a movie script, and I doubt it will take long for Hollywood to take notice and make that happen. Here's my casting vote--Amy Sedaris to play Tavi.

Lou & Vanessa

Lou Doillon is a perfect mix of wit and charm, the epitome of Vanessa Bruno's Spring 2010 line. This short film brings a smile to my face.

Eatable and Many Orders

Normally I don't post about fashion here (I have another blog for that), but this morning I stumbled upon an amazing Japanese label called Eatable and Many Orders. I know, I know, that name makes little sense to me either, but who cares when you get clothes like this? I'm kinda obsessed, and now only want to wear shades of white. My bedroom is like this outfit--all different shades of white and ivory and cream and oatmeal. It's comforting. Thanks to 2 or 3 things I know for the tip-off.

Fashion on a Saturday morning
I woke up early this morning and have spent the last hour flipping through my new favorite website, HEL LOOKS, a Helsinki-based street fashion blog, a'la Fruits. I love street fashion books, and used to flip through Teen Vogue for their feature "Street Fashion around the World". Here are my two other favorite sites for street fashion:

Street Pepper
Covering street fashion from Amsterdam to Zurich, with 22 cities in between. I love that you can easily compare hipsters from Seoul to Berlin. Whenever I browse this site, I find myself wishing for different weather in my own town.

The Sartorialist
Covering street fashion in NY, Paris, and Milan, this site is much less "those crazy kids", and much more "walking Vogue spread". Just as it's my goal one day to be featured on Design*Sponge, my best friend Kathy's goal is to be featured on The Sartorialist. I think we're gonna make it after all.

Anne Selden

Fashion designer Anne Selden's work is now available online, and she's having a huge clearance sale on her winter collection. I met Anne at Cranbrook and fell in love with her sense of color and the playful structure of her work. She's a meticulous designer with a deep love of line and shape, and her creations always have a delightful element of surprise. These are just a sampling from her shop, and they're a complete steal!

I am deciding right now on colors for my own custom jumper with pockets. Yellow is feeling quite right for this shape, wouldn't you say?

My mother at 22 & 12

These photos are from fashion designer Alexandra Groover's black label collection. This model is a spitting image of my mother when she was in her early twenties (first photo) and when she was 12 (second photo). I just chopped off my hair this week, so I was thinking about this image. Now, my mom was much more glamorous looking than this model, who's styled in a rather harsh, modernist way. In her photo at 22, she has amazing sixties eyeliner and these perfect short curls and cute earrings. I tend to gravitate towards harsh modernism, so this would be my reinterpretation.
