Ewoks and Felt Club

I've been down and out this week with a nasty cold, but am on the mend finally (I hope). In my bed-ridden boredom I started going through some old photos and came across this very funny picture of Hawkeye. This might be him at the height of his Ewok-ness (and yes, I just made up that word). One good thing about being sick is getting to spend more time with this pup, curled up on the bed with his face pressed up against me. He seems to be happiest when he's wedged in a nook.

I best be getting better because next weekend is Felt Club down in Los Angeles! I'm so excited for this show. If you're in the LA area, you should definitely swing by. They have a killer lineup of designers, including Jill Bliss, Poketo, Nous Savons, BerkeleyIllustration, BoyGirlParty, and many more. This will be Miss Natalie's first show away from the Bay Area, so I'm thrilled to check out the LA craft scene and meet new friends. I have a soft spot for Los Angeles, and can't wait to be back there.

Saturday morning

Hawkeye is beyond due for a haircut. We were listening to some classic Dylan this morning, and he just blended into the album cover. He'll be a new dog after Wednesday, when he goes in for a shave and a haircut...from scruffy Ewok to crazy chihuahua.

I've been crazy busy getting ready for the Capsule design festival next Sunday (10/19, 11am-6pm), the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season. I'll be launching lots of new products, like the wooden egg sets above, along with some fun Halloween kits. More photos to come this week. Hope you all are able to make it out there. I'll have homemade cookies at the booth, free for folks that mention the blog's name!

Capsule Design Show, May 2008

Hawkeye served as the welcome wagon for the Miss table @ Capsule. He did pretty good for the first couple hours, until some big poodles started to invade his space. He got sent to work in the back room after that. I think he has a bit of a Napoleon complex.

Our orange zest oatmeal raisin cookies were a hit (and cheap lure) with customers. Never underestimate the power of a cookie to make someone walk towards you. This show was of particular importance because it marked my one year anniversary of launching Miss Natalie. Capsule SF was the very first show I did with my good friend Jocelyn (of Nous Savons), and man, oh man, have we come a long way since then. Thanks to all our new and old friends for the support and encouragement to start this wild adventure. Ok, end of my oscar speech, I swear.

Big News

I've been sitting on this news for a while, but now that things are official I'm very excited to share my big, bottled up news. In a few short weeks I'll be starting a new job as a book designer in the Children's department at Chronicle Books, here in San Francisco.

It will be a big change for me from my current bohemian freelancer world, but I've always been good at the balance beam so I plan to keep up with Miss Natalie work and some choice side projects. One of the hardest adjustments will be not working with my studio mate, Hawkeye, every day.

Here he is evaluating the kerning on an invitation I've been a bit stuck on. He has such a sharp eye, but that might be b/c he only has one.
